Food safety consulting services for the audit you have to pass

Certification schemes, FDA regulations, specialty claims, social audits and restaurant inspections. Each service is built around one standard and ends with a system your team can run.

Which food safety service do I need? Start with what your buyer or regulator asked for in writing. A retailer asking for GFSI usually means SQF, BRCGS or PrimusGFS; FDA expects a FSMA food safety plan or HACCP plan; importers need an FSVP. If you are unsure, a gap assessment tells you where you stand.

How to use this page

One standard per service, one team on your floor

JV Food Safety Consulting works with food manufacturers, co-packers, importers, packhouses, warehouses and restaurants that have a specific demand in front of them: a certificate a buyer requires, a plan FDA will ask to see, or an inspection coming up.

We organize our work by standard because that is how the requirement reaches you. Each service page explains the standard, why sites fail it, what we deliver and how long it usually takes.

Every engagement is hands-on. We are based in Miami, work on-site across South Florida and the rest of the U.S., and support Latin American suppliers remotely and on-site by project. Training is delivered in English and Spanish.

We have supported 15+ GFSI certifications. The certification body always makes the final decision; our job is to make sure your site is ready for it.

Match the request

What is your buyer or regulator asking for?

Requests rarely name the service. They name a document, a certificate or a date. Use this table to translate the request into the right starting point.

What you were asked forWhat it usually meansService to start with
"GFSI certification" from a U.S. retailerA certificate to a GFSI-recognized scheme, most often SQFSQF consulting
"BRC", "FSSC 22000" or "IFS" by nameA specific GFSI scheme, often for UK, European or multinational buyersBRCGS & GFSI consulting
Produce supplier certificate for a retailerA GFSI audit covering farm, harvest crew or packhouse operationsPrimusGFS support
"Send us your HACCP plan"A HACCP plan with validated critical limits and recordsHACCP consulting
"Food safety plan" or "PCQI" from FDA or a customerA FSMA Preventive Controls plan prepared or overseen by a PCQIFSMA & PCQI consulting
FSVP records for imported foodA Foreign Supplier Verification Program for each food and supplierFSMA & PCQI consulting
"USDA Organic" on the labelAn Organic System Plan and certification by a USDA-accredited certifying agentOrganic certification consulting
Kosher, vegan or sugar-free claimsAgency certification or a defensible label claimKosher, vegan & sugar-free
"SMETA" or "Sedex audit"A social compliance audit on labor, health and safety, and possibly environment and ethicsSMETA preparation

"We don't know where we stand"An independent assessment against the standard you are likely to needGap assessment & mock audit

Standards overlap. A GFSI certificate does not replace FSMA compliance, and a HACCP plan is not a complete FSMA food safety plan. Many sites need two services built as one system. Our FSMA vs HACCP vs SQF guide explains how they fit together.

Process

The same three phases for every service

The standard changes, the method doesn't. Every engagement moves from an honest assessment to a working system to a test run before the real audit or inspection.

  1. Gap analysis

On-site review of your programs, records and floor practices against the target standard, with gaps ranked by audit risk.

You receive: gap report, prioritized action plan, realistic timeline.

  2. System build & training

Plans, programs and forms written with your team, then supervisors and staff trained in English and Spanish.

You receive: plans, SOPs and forms, training records, internal audit schedule.

  3. Mock audit & certification

A mock audit or inspection in the format you will face, corrective actions closed and support on the day.

You receive: mock audit report, corrective action log, audit-day support.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a food safety consultant do?

A food safety consultant assesses your operation against a standard or regulation, builds the missing programs and records with your team, trains staff and runs a mock audit before the real one. Certification bodies and regulators make the final decision; the consultant prepares you for it.

Which service should we start with if we're not sure?

Start with the written request from your buyer or regulator and use the table on this page. If there is no clear request, or you want an outside view of where you stand, a gap assessment is the lowest-risk first step.

How much do your food safety consulting services cost?

Cost depends on the standard, the size of the gap, the number of products and sites, and how much on-site time is needed. We don't publish price lists because two plants rarely need the same scope. We quote a fixed scope after a 30-minute gap call.

Can you combine several standards in one project?

Yes, and it often saves time. A plant preparing for SQF usually needs a FSMA food safety plan too, and a produce importer may need PrimusGFS and FSVP together. We build one system that covers each requirement instead of parallel sets of documents.
